I lost my cat because of a burglary.

I lost my cat because of a burglary.

by Kate Santoro

I lost the most precious thing to me because of a burglary.

They came in through the back door and that’s where Duchess got out. Duchess was my very much loved cat, a Siamese, not show quality but most beautiful all the same.

The burglars took most of my jewelry, over time that can be replaced, but you cannot replace a well loved pet.

Duchess must have been scared senseless when they busted into her home, panicked and bolted out of the open door, and kept running. She was an indoor cat that had never been out of the house. The poor thing would not have much chance of surviving out there. It broke my heart.

I spent days knocking on doors all over the neighborhood and giving out handbills, even offering a reward, but not one sighting of her.

Those burglars will never know what they have done or how much pain they caused.

I have improved the security of my whole house not just the back door and had an alarm installed, but I can’t undo what has been done. If only I had this level of security before, Duchess would be still here with me now.

sympathy for cat

by: Anonymous

Could you post a photo of your cat on a petfinder type website or a local cat rescue website or the local SPCA lost website with contact information? To all, please always get pets microchipped (even indoor cats). Keep micro-chip info up to date. A good person may have taken her in as a stray. Hoping and praying that your cat is found safe and sound.

What really happens to lost pets

by: Thomas L. Norman, CPP/PSP/CSC

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your precious pet.

Most people are not aware that it is very common for burglars to steal pets as well as other valuable goods. This is especially true of beautiful cats, puppies and small breed dogs. The burglars often give the pets away to girlfriends and female relatives and the like.

It is tragic that many burglars use these dearly loved pets as a method to get close to a girl whose attention they have not been able to get otherwise. The pets are almost never as well cared for as from the family whose love they used to enjoy.

It is very important to view home security as an essential part of life planning as the value of things is small but the value of lost pets is very high.

I hope and pray that your lovely cat has found a good home.

Not replaceable

by: Martin (Editor)

Hi Kate,

I’m so sorry to read what happened. I agree that, unlike the other things that the burglars stole, you can never replace a pet.

Burglars of course, have only one thing on their mind, they do not care about any consequence of their actions.

I’m very pleased to read that you have increased your security.

They probably stole your cat, if no one has seen it in your neighborhood, they probably took it with them, sorry for your loss
